THE PROJECT
In 2020, ONE-Dyas discovered a gas field in the N04 field through an exploratory well. Further investigation revealed that these are two adjacent fields: N04-A and N04-C. The gas fields are located in both the Netherlands and Germany. To extract gas from these fields, ONE-Dyas plans to install a so-called satellite platform at the site in the Dutch North Sea, some 30 kilometres north of the coast. Only one platform is needed to extract gas from both fields.
The extracted gas is transported by pipeline to the nearby N05-A gas processing platform, where it is processed. As the gas is sent to the N05-A platform for processing, the N04-A platform will be smaller than the N05-A platform. Once the gas has been prepared for transport on the N05-A platform, it is piped to the mainland via the North Sea gas (NGT) transport pipeline. This enables Dutch and German businesses and households to use the natural gas.
Like the N05-A platform, the new N04-A platform will be electrified, for environmental reasons, using electricity from the nearby Riffgat wind farm. By utilising the existing infrastructure of N05-A, it is only necessary to lay a pipeline and an electricity cable between N05-A and the N04-A platform. In addition, ONE-Dyas is exploring the reuse of an old platform for the N04-A platform. As gas fields elsewhere in the North Sea are being depleted, used platforms are becoming available. Such a platform may be given a second life in the proposed project. To this end, the platform will be modernised to meet current requirements and specifications.
